Details
The Faderhorn, or Mount Cross, is a beautiful rocky peak of over 2400m. which rises directly above the Walser-origin village of Macugnaga at the head of the Anzasca Valley.
It is one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the East Face of Monterosa.
Given its characteristic pointed summit once at the top, it really feels like you are in the air albeit with your feet firmly planted on the ground.
Not infrequently, shortly after departing from Macugnaga, it is possible to see ibexes, which especially in the early morning, come down to the valley on the Anza stream to graze some grass bush or to lick the saltpeter that comes out of the rocks and of which they are very fond.
The ascent is made in wide spaces on good trail and then on scree in the summit section.
Very nice about halfway up the slope is the Hinderbalmo bivouac, made out of an old hut once used to make cheese.
This hike is ideal to start training to climb altitude, get some familiarity with walking on stone blocks, and get familiar with verticality in hiking!
All accompanied safely and “step by step” by the Guide.
