Sardinia: tastes of Wild Blue and beyond…

The Scarpa–Gurekian refuge is located on the slopes of Mount Agner, a torpedo of vertical-walled rock, clearly visible at the edge of the Pale di San Martino Mountains, a sentinel of the Agordina Valley.
On the other hand, Mount Agner, a name perhaps little known to hikers, features a vertical wall on its north face, which places it at a level of the highest prestige in terms of climbing in the Dolomites and beyond.
We will reach the Scarpa – Gurekian hut and the adjacent Malga Losch hut , which are located at an altitude of 1735 meters, right at the foot of the southern slope of Mt. Agner.
The start of our hike will be from the hamlet of Frassenè, on the road going up from Agordo in the direction of Cereda Pass.
We will ascend with snowshoes (or crampons if the trail should be well-trodden) through woods and grasslands created by an old ski slope, decommissioned many years ago. This will allow us to do most of the trail facing the sun and enjoy some beautiful snowy slopes where we could have fun on the descent!
Our destination will be the refuge, an outstanding panoramic balcony to the south, with the vertical walls of the Agner behind to the north.
Difficulty level:medium/engaging; depending on snow conditions, the amount of effort required will vary.
If the snow will be particularly compact, the use of crampons instead of snowshoes may be sufficient.
Height difference 650 meters approx.
A good level of training and habit of walking in the mountains is required.
