The walls of Pelmo and the Venezia refuge
25 € per person
Mount Pelmo is one of the most characteristic mountains in all the Dolomites for being in the center of a valley, isolated and with a characteristic shape that has given it the name“Caregon del Padreterno.” Pelmetto is its westernmost offshoot, divided by“the cleft” that further characterizes its unmistakable appearance.
The hike will start from Staulanza Pass to reach the Venezia refuge passing at the foot of the Pelmetto walls and below La Fessura
The trail, winds through mughoes and grassy pastures at the foot of the Pelmetto cliffs with wetlands at the foot of the rocks. We will also pass at the foot of the discovery of the dinosaur footprints that 200 million years ago walked on the gradually settling beaches that are now the vertical walls of the Dolomites.
When we reach the Venezia refuge , there will be a chance to continue a bit to touch the vertical rocks of the Pelmo walls and to try to tackle some easy scree for those who want to.
The return will then be by the same route as the outward journey.
The height difference is about 400 meters and development of 13 km
Difficulty level: medium. A sufficient level of training in walking in the mountains is required.
** The hike is organized in a way that allows participants to choose at the halfway point whether to continue for the full tour or return along the outward route, due to the presence of two guides.
